Figure
1 shows a SEM photo of a scratch on the surface of a silicon die. This
scratch plowed through several closely-spaced metal lines, causing them
to become shorted to one another. Scratches such as this are often
caused by mishandling, such as when an operator picks up a die
improperly with a tweezer.
