Question About Handler Grounding
Proper
grounding of test equipment is absolutely important to prevent ESD
problems. This means that the prescribed grounding point(s) of
every machine on the test floor must be connected to the system ground
of the test facility. The archived forum thread below discusses this.

I have noticed that most of our
handlers have no grounding. It's funny to see that most
of the operators are using ground strap without knowing
that the handler has no connection to the ground. Could
this affect good units to fail once it has been tested?
I'm just a newbee to this company. Hope you can suggest
to this issue. Thanks! |

Yes, actually the grounding of
handler should be connected with real
ground. Otherwise, the electrostatic will destroy the
testing device. Meaning the ESD is out of control in your company,
you should mention your equipment to fix it
immediately. |

Or it's possible also that your
machines are grounded through a third wire in its plug
(neutral). This is why you can't see a ground wire. Many
companies do this, but they must make sure this neutral
wire is also connected to the ESD system ground. Maybe
you can ask your eqpt engg the question: how are our
machines grounded for ESD protection? |
